How to Choose the Right Pool Liner
When someone is thinking about installing a pool, there are lots of important factors to consider. This includes where the pool is going to go, who is going to build up, and how the pool is going to be maintained. One of the most important questions that people need to answer is which swimming pool liner they are going to use. If someone has decided they are going to install a pool liner, there are a few important questions that need to be answered.
What Pattern is Going to be Used on Your Pool Liner?
In the eyes of most people, this is the most important factor that must be considered. The liner is going to make a difference because this is what people are going to see every day they look at the pool. In general, there are four classic patterns that are used. These patterns are popular because they match well with the water color. Some of the most popular options include deep blue, aqua, and light blue. There are lots of variations on this classic pattern when it comes to the shapes on the liners. The goal of the pattern is to create a dynamic focal point at which someone can look. Remember that the color of the pool is going to change with the weather, depth, and time of day.
Think About the Thickness of Your Pool Liner
Many people overlook the thickness; however, this still plays a critical role. A liner that fits well is going to last for a long time. If the liner doesn't fit well with the pool, it is going to tear. This will lead to an expensive repair. The thickness of a liner is measured in millimeters (mm). There are two locations where the thickness is going to matter. The first is the floor of the pool. The second is the wall of the pool. Remember that the thicker the liner is, the more weight can be added to the pool. This is especially important for people who are worried about the potential of the pool freezing.
Reviewing the Options for the Pool Liner
Once the pattern and thickness have been chosen, the next step is to consider the various options. There are a few options that people need to consider. These include:
The Stairs: Some people elect to have a liner that covers the stairs as well. This includes not only the steps but also benches, safety ledges, and more.
Textured Liner: One liner option includes added texture. The goal of texture is to protect areas of the pool that receive the most traffic. With the right texture, it will be harder for people to slip and fall as they walk.
Tile or Not: Some liners have options to great a tile pattern. Other people like to remove this feature from the liner because this presents a frame-less look. This is largely a personal choice; however, those who like to swim laps in the pool may want to have tiles. Tiles make it easier for people to see the wall as it approaches.
Of note, it is possible for people to mix and match these options. People are creating their own pool and so they have options when it comes to the liner.
The Cost Ranges of a Swimming Pool Liner
Of course, people are going to be concerned about the cost of the liner. In general, a vinyl pool liner is going to cost between $200 and $1,000 depending on the thickness of the liner and its size. Then, it will be another $1,000 to $2,000 in labor to install the liner. It will be important for people to budget for liner maintenance as well. This includes keeping it clean and handling any defects that might arise. With proper maintenance, liners can last for years.

Steps for Opening a Pool for the Season
With the weather starting to warm up once again, many people are thinking about getting their pools up and running again. Of course, the pool also needs to be safe for use. In order to make sure this happens, there are a few steps that everyone must follow.
1. Remove the Gunk from the Pool Cover
The first step doesn't even involve the pool itself; however, the pool cover is going to be dirty. Take a soft broom to the pool cover and pump and use these tools to clean the cover. Get rid of the dead leaves and remove the standing water. This needs to be removed to prevent it from leaking into the pool when the cover is removed.
2. Skim the Pool
The next step is to take a skimmer and use it to remove anything that might have fallen from the cover during the removal process. This debris might end up clogging the filtration system when it is booted up. Therefore, remove the big stuff to make the cleaning process easier down the road.
3. Remove the Ice Compensator and the Plugs From the Pool
When the pool is winterized, plugs are often added to the pipes to prevent water from getting into them and freezing (which can cause serious damage). Remove these plugs first. If an ice compensator was used, be sure to remove this as well. If these items weren't used, this was a big risk! Use them next winter!
4. Chutes and Ladders Swimming Pool Version
Similar to the popular game, it is time to reinstall the chutes and ladders. This includes the pool ladder, railings, diving board, slide, and other accessories. Drag these out of storage and put them back in the pool. Be sure to lubricate the bolts of all of these materials to prevent them from breaking. This can increase their longevity.
5. Add the Water to the Swimming Pool
During the winter, the water level of the pool probably dropped by a few inches. Sure, the pool cover does prevent evaporation to some extent, but it isn't perfect. Bring the water level back up to normal now. It is easier to do this before chemicals are added because adding additional water will throw off the concentrations of the chemicals that are used to sanitize the pool.
6. Run the Pool Filter and Pump
Now is the time to get the filter and pump back up and running. Be sure to use plenty of lubrication on the pump housing o-ring. If there is any air being sucked into the pump, be sure to check the o-ring for cracks. Open the return side valves to ensure the water has someplace to go once it is filtered. Then, turn on the circuit breaker and watch the pump go to work.
7. Make Sure the Swimming Pool Water is Safe
The next step is to make sure the chemicals in the water are at the right level. Sure, test strips are a good place to start; however, there are a few other tools that are needed. Get the chemistry kit and adjust alkalinity, then pH, and then the water hardness. Checking the chemicals in this order will minimize the amount of work required.
8. Vacuum the Pool
Sure, the big stuff was removed, but there is still lots of little stuff present. The filter is going to do a lot of the work but plenty of other stuff is probably sitting at the bottom. Get the pool vacuum and get that stuff out of there!
9. Shock the Pool
Finally, kill everything in the pool that shouldn't be there. In order to shock the pool, you'll need to calculate the break-point chlorination of the pool. This is done using the free chlorine level from the water test. Be sure to wear gloves as well as safety goggles during this process!

Top Questions Before Installing a Swimming Pool
There are many people who are thinking about installing a swimming pool. This is a great way to not only have a place to relax when the weather starts to heat up but it can also be a great place to throw a party. Sometimes, a pool can even be used to increase property values. At the same time, there are a few important questions that everyone needs to make sure they ask before they install a swimming pool.
Are There Any Permits Needed Before Installing a Pool?
Before the ground can be broken on a pool, everyone needs to make sure that all of the necessary permits are obtained. Depending on where the pool is located, the size of the pool, and the status of the property, there might be some additional permits that are required. Making sure all of the paperwork is done before construction begins in a necessity. The last thing anyone wants to have take place is to have the project stopped in the middle because certain pieces of paperwork were overlooked.
Which Contractor Should Be Chosen To Build My Pool?
Once the location is chosen and the paperwork is completed, it is time to hire a contractor. When looking for the right contractor to handle a pool project, there are a few factors to consider. First, make sure the contractor has the necessary licenses and permits to work on a pool. These certifications are a demonstration of the contractor's skill with respect to pool construction. Then, ask the contractor about other jobs that he or she might have completed in the past. Experience is critical when it comes to working on a pool. Finally, don't be afraid to ask for references. Any contractor that has done a good job in the past should have a few references to pool up to corroborate his or her work.
What Type of Swimming Pool is Best?
There are multiple types of pools that people can choose from. Pools vary in multiple ways. The first is the manner in which they clean the water. Some pools have chlorine added directly to them while other pools use a salt system to add chlorine to the pool. The other manner by which pools vary is the material used to create the structure. This includes fiberglass, vinyl, and concrete. It is important to think about the type of pool that works best for the situation.
Is a Salt or Chlorine Swimming Pool Better?
The first factor that people are going to consider is the pool's sanitation. The traditional option is chlorine. Adding chlorine directly to the pool is the classic method of stabilizing the pool's sanitation and also contributes to its classic color. It will be important to check the pH and chlorine level of the pool prior to using it. Excessive chlorine can irritate the eyes and nasal passages.
In contrast, saltwater pools sanitize the environment in a different manner. Salt is made up of sodium chloride. When salt dissolves, it releases chlorine into the pool. This is used to clean the pool. While this method might be more expensive to install, it is cheaper to maintain. Furthermore, the required chlorine level is also lower. This method is rising in popularity.
Swimming Pool Liners: What To Choose and Why?
Then, it is important to think about the liner as well. Concrete is one of the most popular options; however, it is a bit more expensive than vinyl. Having a vinyl liner around the pool is one of the most straightforward options; however, a vinyl liner requires a bit more maintenance and is less durable than a concrete structure. Another option is to go with fiberglass. Fiberglass is cheaper and faster to install than concrete but it isn't as durable as concrete.

An Overview of Swimming Pool Maintenance
A pool is a popular addition to numerous homes and apartment complexes. When the weather heats up, it is always great to have a place to cool off. Furthermore, pools are beautiful to look at and are a great place to socialize. Those who have installed a pool in their backyard also know that this comes with a few major responsibilities. One of these has to do with maintenance. When it comes to the maintenance of a pool, there are a few points that everyone should know.
How is a Pool Maintained?
In general, the purpose of pool maintenance is to keep it safe for use while extending its longevity. In order to accomplish this task, there are a few important categories. The first has to do with the water. The water of the pool needs to be safe for use. This means that it needs to have a sanitation level that will kill bacteria and viruses. This will keep people who use the pool from getting an infection. The other part of pool maintenance has to do with the structure. The structure of the pool needs to be kept clean and safe. This will prevent cracks from developing in the foundation of the pool.
What Chemicals are Required for Pool Maintenance?
When someone is maintaining the water, there are two broad ways that the water can be kept clean. The first method involves traditional chlorine. If someone is trying to sanitize the water by adding chlorine directly to it, then chlorine is required along with a pH indicator. The pH is used to indicate the chlorine level (or bromine if someone is going with an alternative). There is also a chemical used to measure the alkalinity of the water. All of this is necessary for making sure the pool is safe to use.
Should a Professional Service be Hired?
One of the most common questions people ask about the maintenance of a pool is whether or not they should hire a professional service. This is a personal question; however, there are a few factors to consider. Some people are too busy to take care of their pools. In this case, it is better to hire someone else to accomplish this task. Other people may think their time is more valuable than what they would pay a pool maintenance crew. This is another good reason to hire a professional service. Finally, other people might not be present often enough at the property to take care of the pool. This is another good reason to hire a professional service.
Are There Seasonal Differences in Pool Maintenance?
There are seasonal differences in pool maintenance only if someone winterizes the pool during the cooler months. If the pool is not heated, then when the temperature drops, it is unlikely to be used for several months. When someone is going to winterize his or her pool, there are a few tasks. First, the chemical balance of the water needs to be altered. This is important for keeping the water safe and also for preventing it from freezing. This is the other important point of winterizing a pool. If the water freezes, then it expands. This will damage the structure of the pool. This must be avoided through proper maintenance.
Does the Type of Pool Matter?
The type of pool is going to influence the way someone takes care of it. For example, a vinyl liner requires more upkeep than a concrete structure. Mold sticks to vinyl and forms more quickly than it does concrete. Furthermore, if someone uses a saltwater chlorinator to sterilize the pool, this is going to require less upkeep than the traditional chlorine method. Make sure the right method is being used to take care of the pool.

How to Choose the Right Pool Contractor
When someone has made the decision that he or she is going to build a pool, there are a lot of important questions that need to be considered. This includes the size of the pool, the location of the pool, and whether or not they are going to use a saltwater pool or traditional chlorine pool. Another key question that needs to be answered is the contractor how is going to build the pool. In order to find the right contractor, there are a few important factors that need to be considered.
Make Sure the Pool Contractor is Certified
It is critical to make sure that any contractor or dealer has a certified pool builder on staff, often certified CBP. This designation shows that the staff member has an extensive amount of training when it comes to building a pool. This is basically a badge letting people know that the contractor knows how to produce quality work. This will make sure the pool gets built correctly the first time.
Consider Asking for Referrals for Your Pool Contractor
Most pool builders who have experience generally have a reliable stable of references from prior work they can call. This is a great time for people to ask questions about the cost of the project, the timing of the construction, and any other important points they need to consider. Ask these references about how they felt as the process was ongoing. It is also a good idea to ask the contractor how many pools they have built in the past year. This will give someone a good idea of what to expect as the process gets going. If the contractor doesn't have any references, this is a red flag.
Get Any and All Promises and Claims in Writing
During the pool construction process, the contractor might make a few promises or claims about the construction or purchase process. If this happens, be sure to ask to get these promises in writing. If the builder is comfortable backing his or her claims, this shouldn't be a problem. This is a great way to hold someone to his or her word. If the contractor is not willing to offer these promises in writing, this is a bad sign.
Don't Rush the Pool Construction Process
Once the construction process starts, people are going to be anxious to finish it. This is fair! People want to use their new pool! At the same time, be sure to slow down and let the process happen. Rushing the process could lead to mistakes that are only going to add to the time and cost of the project. Also, don't hesitate to reach out and get bids from competitors. This is another great way to save money. On the other hand, be sure not to sacrifice quality to save money. Relax and let the professionals do their job.
Make Sure the Pool Contractor is Covered and Licensed Appropriately
Finally, make sure to ask the contractor whether or not he or she is properly insured. Some of the insurance policies that a contractor should have include liability insurance and worker's compensation insurance. Furthermore, they need to have a state contractor's license where applicable. These are critical items. If a contractor has these items in order, then it is proof that he or she is a professional. This coverage is an important piece of protection for all parties involved. An experienced contractor should have these items prepared before any pool construction job gets going.
Visit the Local Pool Store for Help
It can be hard for people to find the right contractor. For those who haven't been through this process before, they might not even know where to start. It is a good idea to visit the local pool products store to ask for help. The people who work in these stores often have connections. At Dunn Rite Pool Products, we are proud to help everyone find the right accessories for their pool. Pool Party Ideas for Everyone
Are you planning a pool party this summer? Maybe you want to get some pool party decoration ideas that are different from the usual beach themes. Still, a themed social, complete with food, drinks, and cool pool party decorations is always a hit.
Think about all the ways you can incorporate using the swimming pool as your inspiration. This year, try these fun interactive themes that will inspire your pool party decoration ideas for sizzling summer fun.
Nautical and Nice
This summer, throw a nautical themed party. Some pool party decoration ideas for this theme might be navy and white striped napkins, cutouts of anchors, blow up mermaids, and fish netting. Send out nautical themed invitations and ask guests to dress like they're going for a day of boating. Of course, they'll still need to bring their bathing suits.
Attach a cutout of a ship's wheel to the front of a wet bar. Then, set it at one end of the pool for snacks and drinks. Don't forget to wear your captain's hat.
Do you have friends with
remote-controlled boats? You could have boat races or an RC boat show with prizes for the winners. Invite anyone on your list who has an RC boat to get in on the action. People who don't have boats can volunteer as judges unless they'd rather sit back and enjoy the show. You could even use a Dunn Rite RC skimmer as a “pace car” that doubles as a quick cleaner while the race is going.
Volleyball Tournament
Why not get in some exercise and a little friendly competition at your pool party? Set up a swimming pool volleyball net and invite your friends over for a pool party volleyball tournament. Your pool party decorations can include a gold medal for the winner. DIY garland from beach balls, use those blowup palm trees from last year's tropical beach pool party, and set up a cute themed wet bar where your guests can get refreshments in between sets.
Game Day
Along the same lines of the volleyball tournament idea, is another, centered around sports. The difference with the game day theme is that it's a free-for-all where your guests can play
pool basketball and watch sports television or listen to sports radio. Create a field goal on one end of the pool to play a game of hydro football, too.
Send out your game day, pool party invites, and have your guests wear their favorite team's colors or jerseys. Then decorate the poolside and patio with sports gear—instead of paper lamps, or balloons, drape pairs of cleats and hightops over posts, fences, and wires. Use a wire basket as a gear cage and fill it with waterproof footballs and basketballs.
