Which Is Better Inflatable SUP Vs. Hard SUP?
Dunn-Rite Pool Products offers a line ofÂ
inflatable SUP products so you can take your water adventures out of the back yard when you chose. SUP stands for Stand Up Paddle Board, and the consensus is in: these things are fun! Even toddlers who are directed to sit centered have been able to experience the outdoors in whole new ways with a parent’s aid. People of all ages find the courage to explore and see what their area offers offshore with easy maneuverability and access. These boards are less intrusive to the waters, require zero gas, and put the person in a completely different perspective than they would have in a boat, canoe, or kayak.
If you consider purchasing a SUP, the first question you may have is whether you should get an inflatable SUP vs. a hard or solid SUP. Here are some pros and cons so you can make an informed decision.
Pros of Inflatable SUPS
Lightweight and easy to fit into a compact car or SUV without a roof rack.
Last longer than epoxy, the durable material will endure the sport time and time again.
Generally more cost-effective than their solid body counterparts.
They are reported to hurt less when the paddler falls.
After a long time on the water, there is less fatigue on the bottom of the feet.
Easier to grip surface, ideal for pets to join.
Cons of Inflatable SUPS
May flex in the center if it isn’t fully inflated.
Marginally less maneuverable than the hardboard.
Pros of Hard SUPS
Easier to maneuver because of the smooth surface (more comparable than a surfboard).
No change in performance due to the level of inflation (because it does not inflate).
Cons of Hard SUPS
They are reported to be less durable because the hard material will not give.
Slippery as compared to most inflatable options.
Hard to travel with, you practically have to have a roof rack or pick up truck.
Price points are generally higher for an item that may endure less.
Harder on the body, according to reports from people who have fallen against them or stood on the hard boards for longer trips.
Generally, many people choose the inflatable SUP because they are just as sturdy and reliable as the hard SUP, while having the benefits of being lighter and easier to travel with. Most reviews report that they choose the inflatable because a hard SUP was simply not an option to fit in their vehicle, but they never look back because of the surprising hardiness. The key factor is storing your sup out of the elements when not in use, and of course, fully inflating it at the beginning of your excursion.
If you are new to SUPs or looking for a group of like-minded people to discuss boards and adventures with or plan meet-ups, check out American Canoe Association. You can find more resources on where to go, competitions, and local groups. There are SUP and pet groups, family SUP trips, and many more. SUP Paddling Techniques, Positions and Tips
If you are looking for some aquatic fun that provides you with a workout, then stand-up paddleboarding is the way to go. Usually shortened to SUP, this is a fun way to get out on the water while also providing you with a litany of activities that you can enjoy by yourself or with family members and friends. At the same time, you also want to make that you know what you are doing when you get up on yourÂ
inflatable SUP. With this in mind, there are a few SUP tips and techniques that you should note.Standing Up on the SUP
The first thing that you need to know is how to stand up on the SUP itself.
First, stand next to the board in about knee-deep water. The fins on the board should not hit bottom.
After this, hold the board by its edges and try to get onto the board in a kneeling position. You should be sitting just behind the center area of the board. The center of the board is where the carry handle is located.
To stand up, raise your chest first. Keep the knees bent. Once your chest is vertical, try to stand up.
Getting started on your inflatable SUP may take a bit of practice; however, you can get up on the board with ease once you try this a few times!Holding the SUP Paddle
There are many wrong ways to hold the paddle because many people tend to grip the paddle like a baseball bat, a tennis racket, or a golf club. Using a SUP is not like other ball sports. There are a few quick tips that everyone should note when it comes to holding a SUP paddle. These include:
The blade of the paddle is in the shape of a tear. Make sure the blade of the paddle faces away from you and toward the nose of the board. This will help you orient your hands and arms in the right position.
If you are paddling on the right side of the board, your left hand should be holding the paddle’s T-grip. Your right hand should be on the shaft, a few feet down. When you are paddling on the other side of the board, your hands should switch positions.
If you keep these tips in mind, you should be in good shape when using the paddle.
Staying Balanced on the SUP
After you stand up on the SUP and grab the paddle, you will want to make sure that you stay balanced. Try to position your feet so that they are parallel on the board. They should be about hip-width apart and centered on the board itself. Keep your knees slightly bent, your back straight, and your toes pointed forward. This will allow you to adjust your body as the water moves underneath the board, helping you stay balanced and upright on the board. With a bit of practice and some muscle memory, you should be able to stay up.What If You Fall?
Even the most experienced people are going to fall from time to time. Do not worry about this. In order to get back up on the SUP, you should :
Swim over and position yourself next to the board near the center
Reach out and grab the handle of the board itself with a single hand
Get your legs to the surface of the water and kick with both legs while pulling on the handle to get back on the board.
With a few tries, you should be able to get back on the board quickly.Try an Inflatable SUP from Dunn-Rite Pool Products!

How Safe Are Inflatable Stand Up Paddleboards?
When it comes to using an inflatable stand-up paddleboard, this is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise, and engage in various activities. As paddleboarding has become more popular, there are lots of options that have hit the market. Therefore, it’s a good idea to look at the various stand-up paddleboard options available. For those who are wondering about inflatable SUPs, they often want to know how safe they are. There are a few points to keep in mind regarding the safety of inflatable stand-up paddleboards.
Stand-Up Paddleboards Are Safe
First, there is a myth thatÂ
inflatable stand-up paddleboards are not as safe as some alternatives. This myth is simply not the case. Often people think that because inflatable SUPs are precisely that, inflatable, they are easy to puncture. They have visions of paddleboards striking a rock or a tree branch, popping, and deflating quickly. The reality is that inflatable SUPs are incredibly durable. They will not shred or pop just from running into a hard object on the water. They are designed to resist these stresses with ease.
Second, inflatable stand-up paddleboards are harder to flip than some of the other types of paddleboards because they tend to be slightly wider than some of the alternatives. As a result, they have a larger center of gravity, making them harder to overturn. Therefore, it’s harder for people to flip paddleboards or end up in the water.
Finally, because these paddleboards are inflatable, they're also slightly softer than hard paddleboards. A softer landing means that when the paddleboard gets wet, and someone slips and falls, they're less likely to hurt themselves. There is more cushion for the landing, making it less likely that someone will sustain a serious injury.
These are just a few of the reasons that inflatable stand-up paddleboards are safe options for numerous activities. At the same time, everyone needs to stay safe on their SUP.
Safety Tips While Using an Inflatable SUP
When it comes to using anÂ
inflatable SUP, it is crucial to keep a few safety tips in mind. No matter whether someone is using an inflatable paddleboard or a traditional paddleboard, safety should always come first.
Paddleboarding safety starts with the environment. Check the weather before going out. If there is a storm rolling in, it might not be the best time to be outside.
Next, think carefully about where the paddleboard is going to launch in the water. Some places do not allow SUPs, such as designated swimming areas or locations with heavy boat traffic. Think carefully about where you want to push off using safety as your best guide.
It’s also a good idea to learn about local tides or currents in the area. Try to move your paddleboard out into deeper water to avoid going near objects hidden beneath the water’s surface. Be mindful of other people in the area and avoid boats. If you don't have a lot of experience on your paddleboard, stay away from swimmers until you get more comfortable controlling your board, for your safety and theirs.
Falling Safely on a Paddleboard
There are times when you might end up falling from your pedalboard. If this happens, you need to be able to fall safely. First, try to avoid falling headfirst. Ideally, you will be wearing a life vest, so falling backward is ideal. Also, as you fall, think about letting go of your paddle. Do not land on your paddle, and don’t allow your paddle to twist you as you enter the water. Once you fall off, you should be able to get back on quickly. If you have a leash, this process will be even easier.

How Do You Stand Up On an Inflatable SUP?
For those who are looking for a new sport to try on the water, one of the most popular choices is stand-up paddleboarding. For those who haven't tried it yet, paddleboarding is a fun activity that everyone can partake in on oceans, rivers, lakes, and bays. This will provide everyone with a great core body workout and will allow everyone to experience everything that the great outdoors has to offer. Furthermore, this is a sport that people can try at all ages. It is great for all body types and skill levels. Some people even like to bring a child or pet along with them!
Of course, for those who want to get started in this sport, they need to know how to stand up on a stand-up paddleboard. While there are plenty of great stand-up paddleboard options including a new blue and white stand-up paddleboard, everyone has to know how to stand up. There are a few steps that everyone should follow.
Choosing the Right Stand-Up Paddleboard
One of the first skills that everyone has to master is standing up on a stand-up paddleboard. This starts with choosing the right one. For those who are doing this for the first time, the biggest tip involves choosing the right stand-up paddleboard.
It is a good idea to start with a 30-inch board that is about 11 feet long. This will provide a nice long, wide surface that is going to stay in place as people try to stand up. The board should feel comfortable and stable. If it won’t stay in place, then go for a wider stand-up paddleboard.Â
Inflatable stand up paddleboards tend to be wider and longer which make them a great SUP for beginners and enthusiasts alike.Â
The Process of Standing Up On a SUP
When it comes time to stand up on the stand-up paddleboard, start in calm, flat water. This should be done close to shore. This is where the water is going to be calm unless there are rolling waves in the ocean.
Once there is a nice, calm, flat area, it is time to try to stand up. The steps to follow include:
Move the board out into the water. While it is a good idea to start close to shore, make sure the fin is not going to hit the bottom.
Then, get into a kneeling position on the stand-up paddleboard. While on hands and knees, take a few strokes on each side of the board to make sure that that it is free to move in the water.
Next, slowly stand up on the stand-up paddleboard. Use one fit at a time. Make every effort to remain in the middle of the board. Try to keep the knees and feet parallel to the stringer. They should be should-width apart.
Keep the core centered over the board. Maintain a slight knee bend. Keep standing up until you reach the ideal pose and you are able to stand up straight.
For those who are doing this the first time, it is easy to fall off. Falling off of a stand-up paddleboard is nothing to be ashamed of. Simply hop back up on the board and try again. For those who get cold easily, it is a good idea to wear a thin wetsuit.
The Most Important Tip for Standing Up
Anyone who is going this for the first time needs to make sure they find the right stand-up paddleboard. It is tempting to try a smaller stand-up paddleboard because they look less intimidating; however, this is the wrong move. If the stand-up paddleboard is too small, a beginner is never going to be able to stand up. Then, they will get disheartened and quit. A larger stand-up paddleboard is better for beginners. This is where professionals can help.
These are a few of the most important tips that people need to follow when it comes to standing up on a stand-up paddleboard. It is important to make sure you find the right stand-up paddleboard for your needs. At Dunn-Rite Products, we have the latest line of stand-up paddleboards! Take a look at everything we have to offer! We will help you find the right stand-up paddleboard for your needs!
